Our Wedding: The Music

Music is such a powerful thing. It was really important to me to have personalized everything music for our wedding ceremony. I spent months and months listening to songs and making lists. The final choices were so perfect. It made the ceremony feel even more personal and unique to us. I didn't want the traditional music. The stuff that everyone has heard a million times before. How boring.
The funny thing is that the songs I chose for the processional for my walk with my Dad and for our bridal party was actually from the Breaking Dawn: Part 1 sound track. Yes, my wedding music came from the Twilight movie music. I.am.that.cool.

The song we I chose for the bridal party was Christina Perri's A Thousand Years. It is such a pretty song. Perfect for a wedding.
The song I chose for my walk was a band called Sleeping At Last. We used the instrumental version of Turning Page. I actually had to buy the deluxe soundtrack just to get the instrumental song because you cannot buy just the individual song. Maybe it was made just for the soundtrack, I don't know.
The song that played after we were pronounced husband and wife was Big & Rich - Lost In This Moment. This is such a beautiful song. Once upon a time I thought this might be our first dance song. And that was way before we were even engaged! It was high energy and I made sure it was timed in to come on just at the chorus:
"Lost in this moment with you
I am completely consumed
My feelings so absolute
there's no doubt
Sealing our love with a kiss
Waiting my whole life for this
Watching all my dreams come true
Lost in this moment with you"

Now for the reception...
Our Bridal Party was introduced and entered the room to Pitbull, yes Pitbull! LOL I wouldn't have believed that if you had told me that's what we'd end up picking!
Brian and I's entrance song was even funnier than the fact that we picked a Pitbull song.
I wanted something that would get people excited, dancing and laugh hysterically.
Because in case you didn't know...
We're sexy & we know it!
{Just a warning, this video might be too sexy for some! LOL I'm slightly traumatized from watching it. Ha!}

To cut the cake we wanted something funner upbeat. Not "The bride cuts the cake..." We chose Sugar, Sugar by The Archies.
When the time came for Brian to get the garter, some might have thought it was impossible.
Mission Impossible. Ha!
What can I say, Beyonce made the perfect bouquet toss song. It was a no brainer!
My Dad picked the song for our Father/Daughter dance. It was really special to me that he picked the song. He had mentioned the song to me a few years before we even got engaged. Makes me cry every time I listen to it.
The song we had the hardest time with is the Mother/Son dance. I didn't realize that there are no hardly any songs about a mother-son relationships. We listened to SO many songs. They would start out okay and then there would be some line about caressing, holding each other, kissing, blah blah blah. I don't know how some of the songs ended up on wedding blogs as mother-son dances.
Brian finally decided on My Wish by Rascal Flatts. It says everything any mother would want to say to her son, especially on his wedding day.

Of course, I'm sure you are wondering about our first dance as husband & wife.
I saved the BEST for last!
{{You & Me by Dave Matthews Band}}
I love this song. It is not conventional although it has grown in popularity over the last two years as a wedding song. But wait, it hasn't been two years since you got engaged, Ashley? Oh right, I actually had an email saved titled "W" dated January 2011 with this very song. Just.in.case. {We got engaged June 2011} DMB was also our first concert together in August 2006.

"You & me together we can do anything baby
You & me together yes, yes
We can always look back at what we did
All these memories of you and me baby
But right now it's you and me forever girl
And you know we could do better than anything that we did
You know that you and me, we could do anything"
As you can see, I put a lot of time and thought into most of our important wedding songs. Our DJ was Midnight Mike. He is awesome! {He also works at Food Shack, our favorite restaurant that catered the Rehearsal Dinner}We also had some pretty spectacular dancers. There were several dance offs. I was blown away. I cannot wait to see our video footage.

I swear, "My Wish" is the ONLY song we liked. I wish I was a song writer because I'd make so much money writing mother-son songs haha!
