Resolutions 2014

It's that time of year again! I kind of laugh at myself for even making a list because like so many others I simply don't follow through with my resolutions. I get busy. I forget. I make excuses. Still, I decided it would be good to have a visual aid. Clearly, I am doing oh so good at following through on my resolutions as half of January is already over. Although, one of my many resolutions is to spend less time on social media which contradicts with blogging more...

Clearly, I am kind of failing at #5 since I have had my resolutions written down since the 1st but I have not had the time made the time to type this up. My resolutions are not really in any particular order of importance. I think my goals are pretty self explanatory but I will elaborate a little bit.

1. I chose "be present" because I tend to multi-task in pretty much everything I do. I typically watch tv while doing something on the computer and periodically check my phone too. I also find myself on my phone and taking pictures rather than enjoying the moment with whomever I am with. It has gotten a bit out of control so I am making a conscious effort to get off my phone or off the computer. This might explain why it has taken me so long to get this typed up. My Hubs has used this resolution on me more times than I can count the last few weeks. "Are you being present right now?" I need the reminder and encouragement. I think I have been doing better. Baby steps! Thanks, Hubby!

2. I am my mother's daughter when it comes to being on time...island time. I have always had a problem with punctuality. I can have 30 minutes or 2 hours to get ready and I will always find things to do to fill the time till I am running out the door late. It has gotten to the point where my Hubs usually tells me we have to be somewhere 30 minutes earlier than we actually need to be there. I am starting to catch on...lol

3. I have a secret. I am dating someone...
I call him Hubby. I think it is really important to not get too comfortable in our relationship that we stop wining & dining each other like we did before we were married. Me and Bri are major couch potatoes and tv junkies. An ideal Sunday these days involves us, pajamas and our fave tv shows...all.day.long. If we don't have to leave the house all day, even better. We get up early during the week so we really enjoy relaxing on the weekends. Still, it is important to have a lunch date or date night. Go to the movies. Hold hands. Cuddle. I am lucky enough to have married a gentleman who still opens my door almost 8 years into our relationship. We have been doing really good this past week. We saw Anchorman 2 last Sunday, used a Christmas gift card to have a fun date night at Bonefish on Wednesday and Friday we saw Wolf of Wall Street. I really love his company.

4. & 5. seem to contradict each other. I definitely think I spend way too much time on checking Facebook, Instagram & Us Weekly on my phone. At the same time, I want to devote more time to my blog. I have so many years of memories that I really want to type up to look back on. As well as the new memories we are making every day. I still have posts to write from our wedding festivities. Where does the time go? I am going to take a wild guess and say, FB or IG. ;)

6. I have a gazillion projects. I hope to make progress on my scrapbooks. I have a felt wreath to sew now that I completed the tree skirt. I have wreaths and garlands to make. We are working on creating our own little cookbook. I want to get back into painting. I love creating new chalkboard designs. The list goes on.

7. Let's face it, as we get older life seems to get busier and speeds up. Wow, that statement is making me feel old. Did I mention that I turn 30 this year. Thirty. What?! So often, I find myself saying "Let's make plans!" and then 3 months fly by. I would love to plan girls lunches and couples get togethers. Granted, it is hard because we don't have the space at our townhouse or a well behaved dog to invite people over. I cannot wait until we have a house so we can start entertaining from time to time. I want to mark the calendar and stick to it so that I/we can connect with our friends regularly. I was really happy to visit my best friend last weekend; drink wine and catch up. Today, I went to one of my fave ladies from grad school's bridal shower. I am looking forward to her wedding next month!

8. It is funny because at work I am pretty darn organized and bordering on OCD at times. Then you ask my Hubby and he will have a totally different opinion of my system of organizing or lack thereof at times. In 2014, I hope to organize...my whole life. So far, I haven't really done much for this resolution. Time to make shit happen!

9. Good food is a weakness of mine. Collecting recipes is another weakness of mine. Add that with the 5 cookbooks I got at my bridal shower and that adds up to so many recipes, so little time! I figured if I give myself a really reasonable goal of one recipe a month, I should be able to start making a dent in all the recipes I want to try.

10. & 11. Typical resolutions. I have been doing pretty well with eating healthier although I did have Chinese food for dinner tonight so that cancelled out like 5 days of salads.  Exercise on the other hand has not been happening. I walked for exercise 1 day so far in 2014. My starting goal is walking 3 days per week and then increasing that to 5 days per week. I figured that is a manageable place to start although again, 1 day so far. Eek!

What are your resolutions? Are you sticking to them?

Happy Weekend Y'all!
